Casey's early days and the start of her journey
In Sept. 2014 we rescued 41 donkeys from a situation of severe neglect on a remote farm in Florida. A little jenny that we named Casey was the youngest in the group. We believed her to be no more than three months old at the time of her rescue. From the beginning, there were concerns for her prognosis. She was severely malnourished, and her legs had locked at the hocks in the back.
As time passed, Casey's many trips to the vet resulted in a very thick medical file being created at Brazos Valley Equine Hospital. She couldn't hold her ears straight, and she behave normally in other unexpected ways. We knew she was 'of'f somehow. It just took a while to figure out what was ailing her. Casey is now 27 months old. and we have a definitive diagnosis. Casey is the first known donkey- ever, to have a condition called Wobblers. Her treatment plan includes the need for major surgery- the first of its type ever performed on a donkey!
